The Connecticut College Access and Advising Network (CCAN), an initiative of Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs, is part of the National College Access Network (NCAN) and operates as a sustainable network of agencies and organizations working collaboratively to increase student access and success in postsecondary education.
About CCAN
Through CCAN, organizations (such as the institutions of higher education, school districts, school counselors, non-profit and for-profit college access service providers, and state agencies) will have greater opportunities to work together in furthering a common mission of greater student postsecondary access and success.
We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to support and enhance post-high school education access and attainment for residents of Connecticut. To accomplish this mission, CCAN supports access programs and fosters new initiatives, develops information and financial resources for students and families, and promotes the benefits of greater access to post-high school education. The Connecticut College Access and Advising Network (CCAN),) is designed to bring together and strengthen the many college-access organizations that serve the residents of Connecticut. CCAN partner organizations share a common goal: to enhance access to post-secondary education for residents of Connecticut.
To increase college readiness, participation, and completion in Connecticut, particularly among low-income students, first-generation college-going students, and students of color
Our Mission
Postsecondary educational opportunity and attainment are critical to a just and equitable society, strong economy, and healthy communities.
College is a public good
The postsecondary education attainment rates among low-income students and students of color are significantly lower than those of other students. CCAN is committed to closing these gaps.
College is for everyone
Postsecondary education is a prerequisite to success in a knowledge-based economy. Everyone must pursue and complete a postsecondary credential or degree beyond high school.
College is a necessity
CCAN uses the term "college" to refer to the attainment of valuable postsecondary credentials beyond high school, including professional/technical certificates and academic degrees.
